cLIENT F’S STORY
When I started working for Futures Unlocked in March 2025, this client was being mentored by one of our volunteers. At the time, he was temporarily housed in a guest house while awaiting more permanent accommodation. I had been working closely with both the client and the volunteer, but as the client moved closer to securing suitable housing, the volunteer’s circumstances changed, and he was no longer able to provide the level of support needed.
As an older gentleman, the client found it difficult to take in large amounts of information and required additional help with hospital appointments. I stepped in to provide interim support, and together we navigated his medical appointments and the process of moving into an unfurnished flat in Warwick. He required assistance in furnishing the property, as well as setting up his gas, electric, and other essential bills.
I maintained weekly meetings, as the client frequently needed support with understanding letters, making phone calls, and dealing with various departments to ensure he could live independently. I also met him in Leamington on several occasions after his probation appointments to help him process and understand the information given.
At my most recent review, it was clear that his intensive support was coming to an end, but he still required some practical guidance. I made the decision to match him with an experienced mentor, who has since taken his support to the next level. Through this mentorship, he has been introduced to faith and now attends an Alpha course at a local church. Through effective joint working with police and probation, we ensured he was appropriately risk assessed and cleared to attend.
This journey shows that with patience, kindness, and strong multi-agency working, our clients can truly flourish and begin rebuilding their lives with confidence and dignity
“After his first session, the client told me it was “the best night out he’d had in ages.”
